Equal Compassion Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to support and economically empower teenage mothers. Through its various training programs and initiatives, the foundation strives to deliver these young women from poverty and misery to confidence and self-sufficiency.
Equal Compassion Foundation is a registered (July 1, 2022) Non-Profit Organization (NPO) and Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda. In a bid to prevent the massive spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda, a total lockdown and closure of all education institutions took effect. As a result, social protection systems for adolescents, and especially girls, were highly affected leading to an increase in cases of defilement, child marriages, and teenage pregnancies. After they get pregnant, many teenage girls never go back to school but instead completely dropout, not by choice, but because the environment is not enabling. The majority of young mothers come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with majority households living on a meal per day, which can make it harder to engage with further education. Adolescents that drop out of school are at risk of vicious cycle of low economic status even in adulthood due to unemployment, alcoholism, poor health, committing crime and are prone to community detachment and if this challenge is not addressed, the children of the teenage mothers are most likely to become teenage mothers too in future.
Equal Compassion Foundation was registered to support, economically empower and deliver teenage mothers from poverty and misery to confidence and prosperity, by training them with marketable soft skills in tailoring & fashion design, various crafts making, computer skills and business and financial management. Our assessment has found that hands-on skills have an immediate impact. We need your funding support in order to realize our vision and mission.
